Hi All! How about an idea to have a Beech 18 ground school at Beech party? Then, if people are interested, maybe some (like me) would also be interested in some flight instruction there too. If someone or someones would be interested in being the instructor(s), I will check with the powers to be if we could set this up. Thanks for the consideration, Steve |
Now that is a good idea. |
sounds like a great idea, John L. Wesley john@bristolcomputer.com |
John: Are you coming to Beech Party? Want to be an instructor? Steve |
I could, just need a little notice John L. Wesley john@bristolcomputer.com |
Great. I will ask. Anyone else wish to participate? |
If I am able to attend I would be happy to do some or all. I would need to know how many would be present to prepare materials and need some reimbursement for those items. |
Gents: Rand Siegfried likes the idea of the 18 ground school during Beech Party. Rand is the Prez for the Twin Beech 18 Assn, a division of the Museum. having you two teach would be fantastic. On the reimbursement of the materials, if the museum cannot take care of that, I will take care of that (instruction is important to me). We are now asking the Museum folks to see about scheduling this. I will get back to you. Thanks for volunteering, this is fantastic! Steve |
we will be waiting with bated breath John L. Wesley john@bristolcomputer.com |
Thanks for volunteering. Thanks for being patient. Steve |
Charlie and John: The Museum says this is a go! More over, they are willing to do all the materials copying work for you all. More over, a computer projector can be made available with a screen too. Anything else you need? What subjects would you two like to cover (I am assuming you will be speak separately, but together is fine if you wish). We can do this as lecture format, Q&A format, as a panel, or any combination that you would like to do. This is great! Thanks for this! Everyone: Please consider coming, this should be great for 18 drviers! Sincerely, Steve |

Oh! I forgot - how much time should we allocate? |
Considering that we will have owners/pilots present that are flying all different models with a variety of mods it will easily consume one full day if done in a professional manner. GENERAL 1.Intro A/C & Ops Limitations 2.Weight & Balance 3.Adverse weather Practices 4.Aerodynamics & Performance A/C SYSTEMS 1.Fuel Systems 2.Propeller & Powerplant 3.Oil Systems 4.Electrical Systems 5.Hydraulic Brake Systems 6.Landing Gear Systems 7.Environmental Systems 8.Ice & Rain Protection 9.Fire Protection 10.Flight Controls 11.Vacuum Systems/Flight Instruments 12.Pitot/Static System/Flight Instruments 13.Communications & Navigation 14.Review AIRCRAFT SPECIFIC EMERGENCY TRAINING 1.Emergency Equipment 2.Abnormal&Emergency a.Engine Fire/Shutdown b.In-Flight Start c.Engine Fire During Start d.Prop Overspeed e.Electrical Failure/Fire f.Smoke removal g.Landing Gear Emergency Extension h.Flap Emergency Extension i.Brake Failure In-flight j.Ditching k.Evacuation |

This look great! I would guess that this can be broken into multiple sessions that will add up to one day's worth - yes? |
Aging Twin Beech pilots might suffer from multiples of short things, attention span being one of them. Doing instruction in several shorter sessions might be beneficial. Cocktails would surely increase the discussion participation in at least one forum. |

I totally agree. And the training area is right near Hangar No. 7 (of Jack Daniel's fame) - ie - the Museum's bar (you see, this is a real pilots' museum. LoL. Steve |
Okay - we are getting all the logistics for this training set up! This is going to be great! Everyone - please come to the Beech Party at Tullahoma. This training should be great! When else has there been an opportunity for Beech 18 specific training (ground school)??!! Special thanks to Charlie!!! Steve |

Charlie: We are working hard to have this course all set for you. We did an e-mailing to announce this. We are trying to get as many 18 drivers to show up for this. I hope this will assist our 18 community. Thanks for doing this. I believe we will do this on the Saturday of the event. We will have a location all set up for this. What do you need (overhead projector, computer projector, flip chart,....)? Come one, come all, Steve |
Give me some time to take a look at my materials, what I can change or update, and I will let you know. |

I live far away and unfortunately cannot attend the Beech Party. Is it posible to tape the ground school sessions? Do not want to impose, but it would be neat not only for me but perhaps for others who cannot be there. The ground school is a great idea. |
Charlie: sounds good. Remy and Everyone: good idea on the taping, that would be up to Charlie first and then the Museum second, this really is not my call. Courtesy to Charlie is number one. Then there is a logistics issue to pull this off. I am here to help as many as I can. The real hero here is Charlie for doing this for us all. Steve |

Charlie: Ray Stinchcomb says "hello." Ray works for the FAA at HQ and I believe he is a check airman for DC-6 and DC-7. Steve |

I will be there on saturday Steve. I would hate to miss this one. I do have a question, does anyone know what the subject is on friday? (1-3, Twin Beech Educational Seminar) David |
David: The subject on Friday is Beech 18 maintenance panel of Taigh, Butch, and Nick. This should be a great panel discussion. It has been in the past. Steve PS Charlie - are you flying in your C45, I heard it is a beauty. Okay to video tape (you can contact me on this via swo49@hotmail.com? |

Can't make it Friday, whish I could, but will be there Saturday. If any of the times change from the schedule emailed by Jo, would let us know. Missed a mx seminar a couple years ago because it was swapped with another and different from the schedule that was mailed out. We have no intentions to change the day/times for this. It will be great to see you all there. Saturday is the flyin for breakfast to Wincester. We will start right upon the return. Steve |

Steve, I spoke with a lady named Jo at the museum. I told her that I would need a computer set up with projector for Power Point CD's. I forgot to also request a chaulk/drawing board. I plan on passing out several (7-8) copies of an older E-18 manual with some additional info for D-18/C-45, maybe 1 for each table if that's how things are set up. I will use it as the main reference as we go along using power point too. I have been too busy flying other people's A/C to get my C-45 annual completed so I'll be arriving SWA in BNA (1325 hours) Friday afternoon and driving to Tullahoma. I am staying at Executive Inn there. I have to return home early Sunday morning. I also sent this to you email Charlie 903 8156386 |

The ground school went off as scheduled and was a tremendous success. Again, thank you Charlie for taking the time to do this! Virtually everyone there agreed that they left having learned something, and most of us learned a lot. Let's hope we can do this on a regular basis. |

Wonderful idea and what a great educational resource to share at the Beech Party. I sure wish I could have made it. (My employer needed me to fly to Brazil for the weekend). I would have much rather been in THA. Can anyone share some of the high points? Is there any video or transcript of the ground school? Are there any new common problems creeping up on the fleet? Recent service trouble? Thanks to Charlie and those who went to the trouble to put it on. Hopefully, it will be done again next year. Thanks, John Hess |

Thanks for sharing Charlie. I learned a lot. David |
